Governance & Power

The Orders of the Faithful Platform Engineer

Rank is a promise of behavior under pressure. In Kubblai, advancement is measured by governance and restraint.

Text

Authored as doctrine; evaluated as operations.

Doctrine

Titles are cheap. Responsibility is not. Kubblai uses ‘orders’ as a disciplined taxonomy of operational maturity.

The question is always: what do you govern, and how do you behave when it fails?

Initiate

Understands the objects, reads the signals, and follows protocol without improvising the platform into danger.

  • Fluent in kubectl diagnosis.
  • Understands controllers and scheduling constraints.
  • Can write safe manifests and probes.

Operator

Restores service under incident conditions with evidence-first discipline.

  • Can isolate blast radius.
  • Can roll back safely.
  • Knows failure signatures and where to look first.

Steward

Owns governance: policy baselines, tenancy boundaries, upgrade cadence, and institutional reliability.

  • Designs guardrails.
  • Budgets control-plane capacity.
  • Improves the platform rather than fighting it.

Archivist

Creates durable learning: runbooks, postmortems, doctrine, and training that scales beyond individuals.

  • Transforms incidents into institutional memory.
  • Makes policy legible.
  • Teaches without spectacle.
