Governance & Power

The Covenant of Cluster Stewards

Stewardship is a commitment to make systems legible and survivable. The covenant is the operator’s constitution.

Text

Authored as doctrine; evaluated as operations.

The covenant

A steward accepts that platforms fail. The covenant is not a vow of perfection; it is a vow of discipline: evidence, restraint, governance, and learning.

Kubblai doctrine: stewardship is the highest rank because it is the highest responsibility.

Commitments

The covenant is expressed as operational commitments.

  • Preserve the control plane: budget capacity, reduce churn, operate admission carefully.
  • Enforce policy consistently and legibly.
  • Maintain upgrade cadence as routine practice.
  • Keep identity minimal and auditable.
  • Write postmortems that change the system.

Governance posture

Stewards do not hoard knowledge. They formalize it. They build runbooks and guardrails that outlast individuals.

The covenant is institutional: it describes behavior a team can sustain.
